We finished the Chemistry of Cells packet (packet and power point posted on last week's post). Today we talked about macromolecules and their function and importance in our diets. We also touched a bit on enzymes and how they work.

Monday was a shortened day, so we skipped the bell work for both Monday and Tuesday.
We continued working on the Chemistry of Cells packet (power point and packet on previous blog entry). Today we talked about the properties of water and how those properties help support all life. Bellwork: Name the 3 parts of an atom Today we began a lesson on Chemistry of Life. The notes and powerpoint are below. We will be working on the water and macromolecules portion of this same lesson over the next few days. We also calculated how much you are worth based on your weight and cost per gram of the elements you are composed of. That worksheet is at the bottom as well.
Bellwork: What are the building blocks of matter? Today we worked on an assignment called What are the Building Blocks of Matter. The assignment covered a great deal of periodic table basics. We utilized our books for this entire assignment.
Bellwork: Which variable is manipulated? Today we designed our own experiments. This served as the end of unit test. Students came up with their own question, hypothesis and procedures using either 2 brands of bubble gum or paper airplanes (different designs or different paper)
Bellwork: Name at least 2 characteristics of life Today we performed a Characteristics of Life lab in which we compared gummy worms to live worms. Students enjoyed both eating the gummy worms and working with the nightcrawlers. A makeup lab is attached below.
Bellwork: Which variable is manipulated?
We spent today in the lab getting to know the equipment. If you missed this, you will need to schedule a time for a makeup lab. Bellwork was a quiz and is attached below. We continued to review the worksheets from last week.
